Comprehensively casting all doubts aside, Steven Spielberg's West Side Story continues to prove a hit with critics, regardless of how revered the Robert Wise / Jerome Robbins original was. It tops the 2021 Chicago Film Critics Association award nominations with a monumental 11 mentions, followed by Jane Campion's The Power of the Dog with eight. Repeating its success in yesterday's Boston Society of Film Critics awards, Drive My Car also fares well here, with seven nods - those three movies are joined in both Best Picture and Best Director by The Green Knight and Licorice Pizza. Winners will be hot on these nominations' heels, due this Wednesday, the 13th of December.
