Visual Effects Society awards: The Lion is King!

After last year delighting superhero movie fans by rewarding Avengers: Infinity War with their top prize, this year the Visual Effects Society disappointed them. Avengers: Endgame went home empty-handed in last night's VES awards, with The Lion King claiming the... um... the lion's share of prizes. Until last year, no superhero movie had won the big one from the VES, and still no superhero movie has yet won Oscar's VFX award; it's looking unlikely that one will win this year either.

The Lion King has three awards from the BES, while Martin Scorsese's The Irishman has two - it may be a clean fight between these two for the Oscar next weekend. In the animated categories, we find the only other multiple award-winner of the year here: Laika's Missing Link.
