Vancouver Film Critics Circle announces 2021 award nominations

Nominations have been announced for the Vancouver Film Critics Circle's 2021 awards. The VFCC is leaving things particularly late this year (as long as you forget last year), though this is an unusually long awards season, so they're not alone in doing so. On the international front, The Power of the Dog pulls off the entirely expected by leading all nominated titles with five nods. On the Canadian front, however, Night Raiders fares better still, notching up seven mentions, while leading star Ella-Maija Tailfeathers is recognized not only in Best Actress but also for her Documentary Kimmapiiyipitssini: The Meaning of Empathy. Some much appreciated First Nation representation from the VFCC, and for one of Canada's brightest new voices; much appreciated indeed, given that the international nominees here are an exceptionally white bunch overall. Winners will be announced on the 26th of February (and yes I know I'm late again, but you don't care and nor do I).
