Just when you thought The Power of the Dog could hardly win any more awards, it goes and beats its own best. Jane Campion's return to filmmaking nabs an astonishing 11 awards from the Alliance of Woman Film Journalists, falling shy of a clean sweep of 12 wins only for the fact that its sole loser lost to none other than itself. As I noted when the AWFJ announced their nominations for 2021, their picks reflected the array of great work by female directors last year, though their choices for winners have narrowed in hard on just one such great work.
