The Mitchells vs the Machines wins 7 Annie Awards
Just as the Oscar race for the Best Animated Feature prize looked all sewn up in favour of Disney's Encanto, it's gotten thoroughly pummelled by a major contender at the 2021 Annie Awards. Sony/Netflix's The Mitchells vs the Machines beats the Oscar frontrunner to the Best Feature prize from the prestigious animation industry group, winning six further awards to easily dominate the field here. Indeed, Encanto's only wins - a still-respectable three - come in categories where The Mitchells wasn't even nominated. Mitchells remains the outsider in that Oscar race, though, since Disney holds a strong upper hand where that category is concerned, and since the popular favourite usually wins there.
