The Art Directors Guild announces 2019 award nominees

Tim Heidecker and Elisabeth Moss in Us

Not the first guild to announce - that was the Society of Composers and Lyricists with their inaugural award nominations last week - but the first with an existing track record, the Art Directors Guild has revealed its nominees for the best production design in film for 2019. Big Oscar contenders like 1917, The Irishman and Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood turned up amid expanded Period and Fantasy categories, joining less predictable candidates such as Dumbo and Maleficent: Mistress of Evil.

Later-breaking movies struggled with this early-announcing guild, so no Cats nor Little Women, though we can only assume the latter has been seen; who knew, then, that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been seen, as it's nominated here. We've got a long wait for the award winners announcement: 1 February 2020. Next decade!
