The 2008 Critics Consensus Award Winners

Now this is unexpected! The Critics Consensus Awards have enjoyed Best Picture winners before that haven't won any other prizes, but not like this. 1988's The Unbearable Lightness of Being won in a time when nominations weren't published. Being John Malkovich had three further nominations, all in top categories. WALL-E, however, alongside being the first animated movie to win the CCA Best Picture award, is also the first in the nominations era (since 1990) to win with only one other nomination, which isn't even in a major category - Best Music, which ftr it wasn't even close to winning either. In fairness, had Best Animated Feature existed in 2008, it would have won that too, but winning Best Picture without either competing for Director or a Screenplay award is quite something! Indeed, to make WALL-E's victory even more surprising, it beat that season's awards behemoth Slumdog Millionaire in that movie's sole loss and what was almost its sixth win - a very impressive haul either way. Elsewhere, Sean Penn yet again fails to win an individual acting award, though wins in Ensemble Cast, with Milk only one of two movies to win multiple awards across these 14 categories. And hooray for Sally Hawkins, winning like WALL-E despite not scoring a corresponding Oscar nomination. Remind yourself of the '08 nominations here, and check out their final results below.
