The 2006 Critics Consensus Award Winners

Matt Damon in The Departed

A few funny things happened to the Oscars in the '00s. Among those funny things was what happened in the wake of the Crash debacle in awards season 2005-06. The following season was a bit of a mess, with prizes going to one film and another and another... Perhaps wary of scandalizing then as they had done so recently, the Academy decided to just suck it up and do the right thing for a few years. Thus, we enter into a series of years where whatever the critics said, the Academy did. You'll notice that the below results of the Critics Consensus Awards for 2006 are remarkably similar to Oscar's, right down to matching in Best Picture for the first time since 1993: 13 whole years prior. Martin Scorsese's The Departed didn't exactly sweep - three awards from seven nominations isn't bad, but it isn't great, though what is great is a victory in Best Picture and Director, so who cares. Check out the 2006 nominations right here, and the winners below.
