Saint Maud leads 2020 London Critics' Circle Film Awards nominations

You can always trust the London critics to know what's up. That said, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to a rather different picture of the film industry east of the Atlantic to that west of the Atlantic, meaning, sadly, no First Cow, no Never Rarely Sometimes Always, no One Night in Miami among the 2020 London Critics' Circle Film Awards nominations (the first two are still without UK distribution; the third was just unfortunately snubbed here). Nevertheless, the LCC's Film of the Year lineup is an impressive one, with three titles not predominantly in the English language - in a year notably short on non-English language contenders overall - and four directed by women. One of those, Rose Glass' debut Saint Maud, leads with eight mentions, recalling its similarly strong haul late last year at the BIFA nominations, where it too leads. Winners will be announced at a virtual ceremony on the 7th of February.
