Not to be confused with the Phoenix Film Critics Society, the newer Phoenix Critics Circle has announces its award nominations for film in 2019. In a relatively strong year for female-directed fare in the awards race, there's been a dispiriting lack of them in Best Film lineups, so it's encouraging to see Celine Sciamma's Portrait of a Lady on Fire break through here. Alas, no women in the Director or Screenplay lineups, so not nearly enough to celebrate here.
As with the Chicago critics, who also announced their nominations today, winners here will be declared on the 14th of December, two days from today.
