Green Book Wins National Board Of Review Top Prize

Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen in Green Book

Haaaaaahahahahahahahahaha just when we all thought Awards Season 2018-19 had half a shot at turning out to be a quasi-respectable one (what with the stellar Gotham winners from yesterday), along comes the National Board of Review to do what it does best - confirm its own irrelevance! Green Book, which won the People's Choice Award at TIFF but has come under a stream of highly damaging criticism in recent days, wins both the NBR's Best Film award and Best Actor for its n-word-spouting, third-party-supporting lead Viggo Mortensen. Many were expecting A Star Is Born to win in those categories - it's a Warner Bros. release, and the NBR famously (suspiciously?) reveres WB - but it more than made up for those losses with three other major wins.
