Costume Designers Guild award nominations: Ellen Mirojnick is double nominee

There were snubs aplenty when the Costume Designers Guild chose its nominees for their 2019 awards, with several big (and worthy) Oscar contenders left off the list. Absent here are veterans like Mark Bridges for Joker, Jacqueline Durran for Little Women and Sandy Powell for The Irishman. CDG members opted instead for flashier fare in the Period category like Downton Abbey and Rocketman.

Ellen Mirojnick, however, was doubled dipped by her couturier peers, receiving nominations in Sci-Fi / Fantasy Film for Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and in Contemporary Film for The Laundromat. She's one of the best costume designers around, and as yet never nominated for an Oscar, so this is a welcome decision by the CDG.

Winners will be announced on the 28th of January at the guild's annual ceremony.
