CODA leads 2021 Detroit Film Critics Society Award nominations

Nominations are out for the Detroit Film Critics Society's 2021 awards, with a few surprises among this year's crop. Sian Heder's indie Sundance breakout CODA leads all movies with five nominations, trumping some flashier awards fare due to the absence of most technical categories in the Detroit critics' slate. But, while it makes it into the Best Picture lineup, CODA doesn't land in Best Director, which shares only two films in common with the top prize: Don't Look Up and Belfast, the latter nominated for those two prizes alone. Other unique picks include supporting acting mentions for Last Night in Soho's Diana Rigg and The Many Saints of Newark's Ray Liotta, and a Best Director slot for Red Rocket's Sean Baker. Winners will be revealed on the 6th of December.
