In yet more bad news for fans of good movies, the Writers Guild of America yesterday chose CODA and Don't Look Up as the winners of its 2021 film awards. There was really no need for this - sure, The Power of the Dog and Belfast (which deserved it even less than Don't Look Up tbf) weren't eligible, but West Side Story and Licorice Pizza were, and indeed were nominated. Anyway, don't be at all surprised to see the former win this weekend's Adapted Screenplay Oscar and potentially Best Picture too, and the latter face off against both Belfast and Licorice Pizza in Original, with all three now claiming a major prize this season.

Best Original Screenplay

DON'T LOOK UP (Adam McKay and David Sirota)

Best Adapted Screenplay

CODA (Sian Heder, based on the original motion picture LA FAMILLE BELIER, directed by Eric Lartigau, written by Victoria Bedos, Stanislas Carre de Malberg, Eric Lartigau and Thomas Bidegain)

Best Documentary Screenplay
