The newest guild to announce its 2021 award nominations is the American Society of Cinematographers, and they've snubbed a top contender for their top prize. Six-time nominee Janusz Kaminski misses the cut for West Side Story, a movie that's fared well so far with Oscar prognosticators but around which grows a creeping doubt re: its industry awards prospects. Instead, a couple of titles that remain hit-or-miss Oscar predictions land with the ASC: Belfast and Nightmare Alley. And there are some excellent choices in here, such as Titane for the Spotlight Award, and Faya Dayi for Documentary Cinematography. Winners will be announced on the 20th of March.
