All loud and clear on the Western shore: The Academy is gunning hard for Netflix's German-language WWI drama, All Quiet on the Western Front. It maxes out in today's announcement of the shortlists for ten of the 23 Oscar categories, landing in all five categories where it's eligible. Also putting in strong performances across these lists are Black Panther: Wakanda Forever - also with five - and Avatar: The Way of Water with four. The Batman puts in a fair showing too, but is also among some of the most striking snubs, missing out on the Best Original Score top 15 alongside Bones and All, Empire of Light, RRR and Turning Red. Other big snubs include The Fabelmans and Tar in Best Sound, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio in Best Visual Effects, and Good Night Oppy in Best Documentary. Oscar nominations across all 23 categories will b announced on 24 January, with the 95th annual Academy Awards taking place on 12 March.
