80th Golden Globe awards nominations announced
Updated: Dec 17, 2022

People will look at the nominations for the 80th - the 80th! They've lasted 80 fucking years! - annual Golden Globe awards and wonder, "No Danielle Deadwyler? No Janelle Monae? Taylor Swift?! Why it almost looks as though the HFPA were right back on their bullshit!" And, wouldn't you know, they'd be right to do so. The Banshees of Inisherin leads these nominations with eight, pretty much maxing out, but it'll be a close call between it and fellow Musical/Comedy contender Everything Everywhere All at Once for the top prizes. On the Drama side, smart money might've been on Top Gun: Maverick until voters got pissy at their main squeeze returning all his gongs and shut it out everywhere but Best Picture and Best Original Song, so it's anyone's guess now. Hey, at least they remembered Taylor Swift's extraordinary contributions to cinema in 2022! Winners will be announced on 10 January, almost certainly not on TV.
