2022 European Film Awards winners: Triangle of Sadness is Best Film

Sometimes, you just have to wonder. Ruben Ostlund's smug, shallow satire Triangle of Sadness has succeeded in impressing the very people it supposedly intended to skewer in impressive style, winning all four of the European Film Awards for which it was nominated tonight, including Best Film and Best Director. Congrats to Best Actor recipient Zlatko Buric, and Best Actress recipient Vicky Krieps for Corsage, both of whom are legitimately very good in their movies. But this is no more a reflection on the state of contemporary European cinema than the Oscars are on the state of American cinema. Those Belfast craft wins made that clear anyway.
