2022 European Film Awards nominations announced

Lest we motherlanders disappoint, the European Film Academy has announced the nominees for its 2022 awards, and they're just as mediocre as any American film organization could conceive. Leading the field are three movies with four nominations each: Ali Abbasi's (bad) Holy Spider, Ruben Ostlund's (bad) Triangle of Sadness, and Lukas Dhont's (dunno, not seeing a movie by an unrepentant transphobe) Close, with all three securing nods for both Best Film and Best Director. And mercy? What mercy? Kenneth Branagh receives a nomination for Best Screenwriter, after marking himself out as possibly the worst Original Screenplay Oscar winner earlier this year for Belfast. Winners will be announced in two stages: craft categories for the EFAs are chosen by committees and decided upon without official nominees, and those winners will be declared on the 23rd of November, while the main category winners are due on the 10th of December.
