Lashana Lynch and Thuso Mbedu in The Woman King

Over a month ago now, the African American Film Critics Association announced its Top 10 movies of 2022, with Gina Prince-Bythewood's The Woman King topping their list. Today, they've announced the winners of the remainder of their awards, and they've continued their great tradition of shining a spotlight on the wealth of excellence in Black cinema over the course of the previous year. Prince-Bythewood wins their Best Director award, but it's not the top winner overall in terms of the number of prizes won: that honour goes to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever with its four wins, while Till has three.
