2021 Detroit Film Critics Society award winners announced
Updated: Dec 13, 2021

Cyrano was the big winner at the Detroit Film Critics Society awards today... well, it was the only multiple winner, as the DFCS chose to spread the love this year. Among 13 categories, they found space for 14 winners including two ties - only Cyrano moved up from single digit success, and even then only to two wins. But it did snag Best Picture, despite lacking a Best Director nomination; indeed, two of its fellow Best Picture nominees were also missing mentions for their directors, such as nomination leader CODA, whose mere five nods indicated a diverse array of opinions among DFCS members when the nominations were announced. The Director winner too came from a movie without its fellow top category in tow: Lin-Manuel Miranda winning for tick, tick...BOOM!, a surprising choice in a slate where it somehow ranks among the less surprising.
