In a fast-developing trend this season, another industry guild has announced its awards nominations to highly justified derision. The American Cinema Editors' 2021 Eddie Awards nominees make room for movies like Cruella, Don't Look Up and Sing 2, but can't find room for actually well-edited movies like Spencer, The Tragedy of Macbeth and, most egregiously of all, West Side Story. If editing titan Michael Kahn can't receive a nomination from the top film editing industry body in the world for some of the best work of his remarkable career, and in a highly acclaimed Steven Spielberg musical of all things, then why bother paying attention to what these voters think? If you've got any attention left to give them, check back on the 5th of March for the winners.
