2020 Denver Film Critics Society award winners announced

Mark Rylance and Eddie Redmayne in Aaron Sorkin's The Trial of the Chicago 7
Mark Rylance and Eddie Redmayne in The Trial of the Chicago 7

This article was almost led by a remark about how peculiar the critics' groups' enthusiasm for Aaron Sorkin's The Trial of the Chicago 7 has been this season, but alas no, these groups do disappoint year after year. It wins the Best Picture prize from the Denver Film Critics Society now, also winning Original Screenplay for Sorkin and Supporting Actor for Sacha Baron Cohen. Elsewhere, smarter choices include Nomadland's Chloe Zhao in Best Director, First Cow in Adapted Screenplay, and Ellen Burstyn's first award of the season in Supporting Actress for Pieces of a Woman. Missed the nominations announcement from this bunch, since it didn't seem to be reported anywhere, so they're included below alongside the award winners.
