Following the announcement of critics awards on Twitter as they're being voted upon can be an intriguing guessing game. You're watching to see if any of the group's choices might suggest later choices, namely Best Picture - when Parasite won Foreign Language Film early on, some online suggested that might indicate it wouldn't win Best Picture...

And they were right! Martin Scorsese's mob epic The Irishman wins its second major Best Picture prize in two days, after winning the NBR Best Film award yesterday. Few clues left by the New York Film Critics Circle in the other categories, with a sole Supporting Actor win for Joe Pesci to indicate these critics' favour for the movie, but few needed! With two big awards bagged a mere 24 hours into awards season, The Irishman is looking more and more like the film to beat this year.
