2019 Academy Awards: Parasite wins Best Picture

There have been faster posts to make it to print about the Oscars this year, but forgive me! I had the 1917 image set to go, and furthermore I had several spontaneous tweets of pure ecstasy freshly set to send. So Parasite - of course Parasite! - makes history as the first non-English language movie to win the Best Picture Oscar, and could it have happened to a worthier candidate? I know that, right now, my answer is no, and I know that, years from now, my answer will still be no.
For all the dullery of the night's other winners, the sheer joy of the Best Picture and Director results tonight, in facing down the potential awfulness of a seemingly inevitable 1917 double whammy, redeems the show entirely. A Greta Gerwig win would have been nice. Avoiding a second 0-for-10 anti-sweep for a Martin Scorsese movie would have been equally nice. A surprise acting award winner would have been nice. But Parasite is naughty, nasty and nice in the same exquisite package, and I'm in love with its wonderful concoction. Here's to another 12 months of acting like the Academy could ever make me feel like this again!
