2018 Oscar Visual Effects Longlist Revealed

Oscar is set to do things slightly differently this year, announcing the shortlists for all categories in which this is standard procedure on the same date later this month. But the Visual Effects category also releases a longlist each year, and 2018 is no different, not least in its customary surprises. CGI-heavy titles such as Pacific Rim: Uprising and Rampage, superhero movie Deadpool 2, and many cinephiles' personal choice to win the category outright, Annihilation, all miss the mark, though it's a list chock full of heavyweight contenders all the same. Oscar nominations will eventually be announced on the 22nd of January. Check out the 20 films that make the VFX longlist below:
