Good news, gays! Todd Haynes once again tops the bill at the Critics Consensus Awards, with eight nominations for another female-led LGBTQIA+ picture: Carol, matching Far from Heaven's once-record haul of eight nominations. It's a female-focused Best Picture lineup for 2015 (though, alas, none of the movies up for any top award were directed by women), with all four of the five with one or two clear leads are led by at least one female character. The Revenant, which very nearly won the Best Picture Oscar, misses a nomination in that category here, with surprise nominees Inside Out and Room making it in instead. This was one of the closest and most volatile races in that category in the 50 years of the CCAs to date, with nine movies battling for five slots. Elsewhere, the Animated Feature linup proves once again that the critics aren't nearly as strong as the Academy at picking great animated nominees (though we're looking at data collected mostly from smaller, regional critics groups in this category), though the Foreign Language Film lineup might just be the strongest out of all 16 for 2015.
