The 2013 Critics Consensus Award Nominations

Bryan Batt and Chiwetel Ejiofor in 12 Years a Slave

Records just keep falling at the Critics Consensus Awards! Just one year after The Master notched up a new high of 10 mentions across 16 categories, 12 Years a Slave goes one further. It pulls in 11, two more than it received at the Oscars and more than any individual movie received there that year either - the first time that's occurred and, to date, the only time. For the third time since 1990, when CCA nominations began, the Best Picture and Director lineups match 5 for 5, with these five pictures claiming a remarkable 37 mentions between them (the Oscars that year were similarly dominated by the Best Picture nominees). That said, American Hustle scores just one nod for an individual actor (Jennifer Lawrence) to its four chez Oscar, with slots going instead to performers like Adele Exarchopoulos for a non-English language role in Blue Is the Warmest Colour, and Scarlett Johansson for a voice role in Her. And The Wolf of Wall Street tanks, earning a mere two nominations - it was hindered by a robust band of big hitters making the rounds that awards season before critics had even seen it, or before they'd had a chance to assess its popularity among other groups (disappointingly, this is often a factor with critics' awards). Come back later and I'll reveal the 16 victors across these categories, but see below for the nominations until then.
