Has Oscar ever strayed so far from the critics? The 2002 awards and polls consensus from cinema journalists was as strong as it could get - literally, as Far from Heaven (which missed Oscar nominations in all but four categories, and won none of those) breaks another record at the CCAs. First, it scores more nominations than any other title before it, with eight, then it scores more awards than any other title before it, with its six wins besting the 21 year record of five set by Warren Beatty's Reds. Its wins come in its four Oscar-nominated categories plus Best Picture and Director. Its victories weren't all as definitive as such a resounding success might suggest, as it faced considerable competition particularly in Best Director, but there's no doubting now as there was not then: Far from Heaven was clearly the critics' favourite movie of 2002.
