The 1995 Critics Consensus Award Nominations

Nicolas Cage in Leaving Las Vegas

After 1994's Critics Consensus Awards added a new category for the first time (Best Cinematography), the 1995 edition adds another (Foreign Language Film). That, alas, doesn't affect any of the other nominees, as every one of them is in English, including nomination leader, Mike Figgis' Leaving Las Vegas. It matches Goodfellas' and Pulp Fiction's record of six nods, closely followed by an impressive showing for Todd Haynes' Safe, which missed out on any Oscar mentions. Interesting to note that, despite what looks like a Best Director lineup full of heavy-hitters, only one of these five is up for the Oscar. Perhaps more interesting is that the year's Oscar Best Picture, Director and Actress winners are both absent: Braveheart and Mel Gibson, and Dead Man Walking's Susan Sarandon. And for the third consecutive frame, a Best Picture nominee sneaks in without a single other nomination to its name - in this case, Babe. Winners are on their way later today, but all the details for now are below!
