While The Silence of the Lambs stormed the 1991 Oscars, its victory with the Critics Consensus Awards was surprisingly less decisive. Best Picture and Director wins are, naturally, better than the performance of any other title with the critics that year, but its Best Actress, Actor and Screenplay losses arguably make its Oscar success even more impressive. Who'd have thought the critics preferred Geena Davis in Thelma & Louise to Jodie Foster, though did they really prefer Nick Nolte in The Prince of Tides to Anthony Hopkins? Add up his leading and supporting scores combined and he beats the whole bunch - the only time category splitting has affected the results of the CCA.
