The 1990 Critics Consensus Award Nominations

Ray Liotta and Gina Mastrogiacomo in Goodfellas

I've been over the rules I set for my Critics Consensus Awards a few times already (in their fullest detail on the initial post), so I'll only briefly mention here that things are all change for 1990 as nominations join the fray, and it's good news for Goodfellas! Martin Scorsese's gangster classic competes for six of seven awards including Best Picture and Director; those interested will now be able to keep track of how closely those categories match, with 4/5 pictures appearing in both for 1990. You'll notice that I don't adhere to the Oscar rule of limiting actors to one nomination per category, as both Anjelica Huston and Robert de Niro make double appearances in leading acting categories (I also don't adhere to the occasional critics' practice of grouping an actor's performances together within one nomination). Perhaps the most interesting thing about the 1990 CCA nominations is that only two of its Best Picture nominees were up for the year's corresponding Oscar: Dances with Wolves and Goodfellas, and The Grifters' nomination means Scorsese notches up four mentions in a single year, which stands as a current record. Check back later for details of award winners, and see below for details of nominees.
