The 1982 Critics Consensus Awards amount to something of a return to form, after Reds dominated like no picture before it in the 1981 edition. Five winners among seven categories, with our first 'popular' movie winning Best Picture: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial giving Steven Spielberg his first and second wins (also taking Best Director), and certainly not his last. Indeed, the 1980s are well and truly upon us, and things will change a lot over the course of the CCAs in this decade. Of note this year: Ben Kingsley becomes the first Best Actor winner of colour, winning for Gandhi, and close Supporting Actress runner-up Glenn Close makes her debut in contention for The World According to Garp. That'd be a fairly redundant point to make save for Close's performance in the CCAs since '82 - she's featured only four times (2018 included), and has fallen outside the threshold for nomination, never mind winning, every time but this. You'll just have to stay tuned to see whether or not her fortunes will change this year for The Wife. All 1982's winners below.
