Nomadland and Promising Young Woman tie atop Kansas City Film Critics Circle awards

Carey Mulligan in Promising Young Woman

The Kansas City Film Critics Circle is among the oldest still-active film critics groups in the world, so today's announcement of their 2020 awards isn't just another insignificant chapter in the long story of the 2020-21 awards season. They've found space in their top category, Best Picture, for two movies - Nomadland and Promising Young Woman; in keeping with the trend of this season, they've selected two movies directed by women. The former's director, Chloe Zhao, wins both Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay from the Kansas City critics, while the latter's wins Best Original Screenplay.
