1917 wins top Producers Guild of America award

George MacKay in 1917

And there you have it: your new verified Oscar frontrunner is Sam Mendes' 1917! It remains to be seen how a number of other big Oscar predictors shake up, and tonight's Screen Actors Guild awards won't offer up any opportunities to honour 1917, but for now, this Producers Guild of America victory combined with its Golden Globes double-win and a Critics Choice Best Director award makes Mendes' WWI movie look like a pretty formidable contender for the Best Picture Oscar next month.
